Step 1: Brake Retrofit
Even with Zero volts applied to the magnetic particle brake, there is still a considerable amount of friction in the system.
The machine lacked a proper control and tension measurement system, relying on a dancer arm, limiting precise tension management, thus creating a high risk of errors.
To eliminate the residual friction, we disconnected the magnetic particle brake, removed the sprocket from the shaft and began installing a CD104 Pneumatic Brake.
The brake installation process is simplified using a mounting template.
- The first step is to drill and tap the holes and insert the friction module standoffs.
- The brake is then mounted on the shaft, locked on and the modules are inserted.
- Run air to the I/P Converter and then run air from the I/P to the brake.
