50:1 Output Ratio with 1550X Sensitivity
Montalvo's Load Cells and Amplifiers use 5 Volts DC as the excitation voltage. The nominal output range of a Montalvo load cell is 0 - 250 mV. The resulting ratio is very high at 50:1. (250mV / 5 VDC = 50mV per Volt)
Increased signal resolution, also known as expanded range operation, provides the benefit of a higher signal-to-noise ratio.
What does this mean?
Some portion of the signal coming out of a load cell is mechanical or electrical noise injected into the process from the machine or the electronic components connected to it. As the proportion of noise to signal increases, the signal that is being amplified increasingly represents noise more than it represents tension. (A LOWER signal to noise ratio is worse for accuracy, not better)
A Montalvo load cell with a 50 to 1 expansion range will increase the signal to noise ratio of any given web tension system 25% MORE than a load cell with a 40 to 1 expansion range.
1550X Sensitivity
A Montalvo load cell and amplifier have a typical noise floor of 0.157 millivolts; any change in output beyond this is considered a change in tension by the tension control system. Total nominal output is 250 millivolts at full load which creates a Tension Resolution of over 1550 times the significant change in tension
